Pre-Operative Information

To help you and your pet prepare for a surgery Snowy Vets, we have a few instructions that need to be followed.

FOOD

Medications: If your pet requires medication in the morning (with or without food), please let our staff know before your scheduled surgery date so we can advise you on how best to administer it.

Feeding: Please give your pet ¼ of their normal meal before 6:00am on the morning of surgery.

After 6:00am: Do not offer any further food.

Water: Fresh water should remain available at all times.

PRE-ANAESTHETIC BLOOD TEST: Is an additional service we provide and recommend. Pre-GA blood tests give us indication of your pets organs; especially the liver, kidneys and blood are functioning before administration of an anaesthetic. Performing this quick and simple test allows us to maximises the safety for your pet whilst under anaesthetic.

IV FLUIDS: Intravenous fluids are used for all animals that undergo general anaesthesia. Fluid therapy protects animals against many of the negative effects of anaesthesia, making  the safest we can and helping to improve recovery after the procedure.

MEDICATION: Please give medications as directed (please ask our friendly team prior to your appointment if you are unsure)

Important Information for Owners:

FULL PAYMENT for your pets surgical procedure is required before discharge from Hospital. If you require an estimate for the cost of the procedure, please request one prior to your appointment.
If you would like to discuss what payment options we have, please call our friendly staff to discuss prior to the day of surgery.

DISCHARGE TIME is usually after 4pm on the day of surgery, but certain procedures may require your pet to stay overnight. You will be advised of an approximate discharge time at the time of admission.

CANCELLATION within 48 hours of your scheduled appointment will incur a fee.  We understand that there are times when you must miss an appointment due to emergencies or obligations for work or family. However, when you do not call to cancel your appointment, you may be preventing another patient from getting much-needed treatment. Conversely, the situation may arise where another patient fails to cancel and we are unable to schedule you for a visit due to a ‘full’ appointment schedule. If you do need to cancel your pets procedure please notify us more than 48 hours before by calling our clinic.
